Inspiration

Volunteerism from a logical perspective -
United Nations Volunteers

Volunteerism can play an important role in the development of cities and towns. Volunteering adds to the overall economic output. It is also closely related to the formation of social cohesion and capital bearing in mind their importance for (urban) development. In addition, volunteering has important potential contributions in regard to the social aspects of urban development e.g. as a basis for the development of participatory processes. There is also a relationship between volunteerism and local pride, which, if supported, provides the opportunity for the establishment of a virtuous cycle. I.e. enhancement of the local pride increases peoples motivation to invest in their settlement (i.e. increased propensity to do volunteer work). And the additional investment in their settlement will generate further impact in the cultural heritage and local pride, and so on.
