Merry Christmas!!

William Beaumont Army Medical Center held their annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Monday, December 15, 2003.  The Department of Ministry hosted the ceremony and recruited some of our very own to carol around the hospital as Santa handed out presents to the patients, staff, and family.

"Si-lent night... Ho-ly night..."

Can you imagine a bunch of Red Cross volunteers singing Christmas carols?  It happened!  A group of Red Cross volunteers accompanied Santa on his early Christmas rounds at WBAMC serenading the patients and medical staff of 9E, ER, ICU, and radiology.  Some of the most memorable moments were in the ICU when the patients just laid back with their eyes closed, sinking in the music and the words.

Measles Iniative

On June 25, 2003, the youth of the American Red Cross began promoting their latest endeavour.  The Measles Iniative is a project, started in 2000 by the ARC, WHO, CDC, UNICEF, and the Untied Nations Foundation, aimed at eradicating the measles in Africa by vaccinating every child.  It only takes $1to vaccinate one child and the estimated total cost to achieve the goal is $200 million.  (A lot of children and a lot of money.)  So far we have raised $93.25 towards this project.  Any questions concerning the Measles Initiative should be directed towards Alex Herrera at the WBAMC office.
